WILDLAND FIREFIGHTERS
Wildland Firefighting is a challenging, exciting, and rewarding work experience, that offers opportunities for learning and adventure each day.
TYPE 3 FIREFIGHTING
No experience or training required
Type 3 firefighting is a way for non-experienced firefighters to enter the Wildland Firefighting field, or for experienced firefighters to increase their experience and grow their expertise.
Accepted applicants without the required certifications and training will be invited to enrol in one of our training sessions.
Non- guaranteed work*
Deployments occur on an if and as-needed basis. The amount of work depends on the severity of the fire season.
TYPE 3 TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Prior to deployment, applicants must also complete the following:
Pass the annual Moderate Capacity Fitness Test
Attend an annual orientation
Provide government issued photo ID
You may also be asked to provide:
Driving record
Proof of firefighting experience
Additional certifications and proof of training
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Type 3 Firefighters work on 5 person crews.
Each crew is required to have a minimum of the following crew personnel:
One (1) Crew Leader
Two (2) First Aid Attendants
One (1) Power Saw Operator
One (1) Danger Tree assessor
Being certified for any of the above-mentioned crew positions will increase your chances of being added to a fire-crew and being deployed.
*Non-guaranteed work— how it works:
Type 3 Firefighting is on an if/as-needed basis, and is dependent upon the extent and severity of the fire season. There is no guarantee of work.
When you successfully apply to Nakimu as a Type 3 Firefighter, you will be added to our “Type 3 Roster”. Throughout the fire-season, Nakimu will receive notification from the government requesting our firefighting services. We will then consult our roster and contact employees for deployment.
Because of the nature of the non-guaranteed work, there is no obligation for employees to be available when we contact you for deployment. However, if you are available and you accept a deployment request, you must be willing to commit to a potential two-week deployment.
TYPE 2 FIREFIGHTING

All Type 2 Firefighters must have a minimum of 15 days of active Firefighting experience.
Type 2 Firefighters are also required to have a higher level of training and certifications. We offer in-house training for many of the required courses.
