Basic Wildfire Training - S100 & S185 (2-day)
S100-Basic Fire Suppression & Fireline Safety
S185-Fire Entrapment Avoidance
Fee: $275/pp + GST ($288.75 total)
This course delivers the prerequisites for working on a wildfire crew. Basics of wildland fire suppression, fire behaviour, safety procedures, entrapment avoidance, equipment use, and command structure are all taught. This course is a requirement to work on wildfires in BC. The course is a 2 day course with classroom and field component. More information can be found here
Training is valid for 1 year and must be recertified annually with the S100a refresher.

S-100A - Annual Refresher
Fee: Free to Nakimu employees ($20 pp if you would like to take your ticket elsewhere)
This course will be offered by Zoom meeting this year and provides the refresher training for anyone who has successfully completed S100 course in the past 5-years. This course is required to work on wildfire line in BC and must be completed annually.
Note— returning employees will also need to sign-up for an annual fitness test and orientation (see below)

Annual Fitness Test — for Type 3 Firefighters
All employees* must complete an annual fitness test. This must be completed before June 30th each year.
Fitness test: walk 3.22 km, in under 30 minutes, with 25lbs in backpack. Wear adequate footwear (running shoes suggested) and weather-appropriate clothing. Please bring your own backpack equipped with 25 lbs of weight.
Location: in Revelstoke along the Illecillewaet river. Meet at the Greenbelt at the end of Oscar St. See adjacent image for location details.
*If you are a new employee and are enrolled in our Basic Wildfire Training - S100 & S185, you do not need to sign-up for a fit-test— this will be included in your 2-day training.

NOTE: to be eligible for the 2025 firefighting season, all training and fit-testing must be complete prior to June 20th, 2024.
Wildlife Danger Tree Assessor : Fire (2-day)
Fee: $500/pp + GST
This course provides students the knowledge and technical procedures for assessing tree hazards and establishing appropriate safe-work practices in situations where there is potential exposure from dangerous trees to workers on the fire line. It also provides information on assessing both tree hazards and wildlife-tree habitat value, where opportunities exist.
Pre-requisites:
1. Three or more years of practical field experience in the area of forestry, resource management, parks management, wildland fire protection, arboriculture, or a related field.
2. Grade 10 equivalency in reading, writing, and arithmetic skills (including the ability to calculate percentages).
3. Ability to identify tree species native to BC.
4. Proven forestry measurement skills (including the ability to determine tree diameter, height, lean, stem cross-section, and skill in distance measuring)
5. ADDITIONAL PREREQUISITES FOR WILDLAND FIRE SAFETY:
Persons must demonstrate that they have recent fireline experience, amidst a series of slow fire fighting seasons, meaning that a person wishing to register for the WDTAC-Fire module for the first time will need to have worked a minimum of 10 days on the fireline since the 2017 fire season to present; OR have a minimum of five days of documented dangerous tree assessment experience (harvesting/silviculture, parks, wildfire operations) in the previous calendar year.
