BASIC WILDFIRE TRAINING
S-100 and S-185 are the most basic requirements for all firefighters in British Columbia. Once you are certified in these courses, you will be eligible to Wildland Firefight anywhere in the province.
The S-185 certification does not expire.
The S-100 certification requires annual refresher (S100a) to maintain endorsement.

Nakimu Ventures Inc. offers a two-day Basic Wildfire Training course for new hires and potential employees. The course covers all S-100 and S-185 course material, with a mix of in-class theory and hands-on practical training. Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive your full S-100 and S-185 certifications.
BASIC WILDFIRE TRAINING SCHEDULE (2-days)
DAY 1
Classroom- Theory
9:00am to 5pm
1240 Powerhouse Road, unit 309
Day one will be classroom based with highly trained and experienced instructors.
Topics will include:
S100- Basic Fire Suppression and Safety
S185- Fire entrapment avoidance
Fire weather basics
Basic pump theory
Truck cleanliness and etiquette
Crew identity- professionalism and expectations
There will be a 1 hour lunch break at noon, as well as two 15 minute coffee breaks throughout the day.
Please bring government issued photo ID, any relevant certifications, and a notebook.
DAY 2
Field Work - practical
9:00am to 5pm
Moses Creek Campground Parking Lot
Day 2 will allow you to put your previous days’ learning to practical use and application.
Field work will include:
Practical application of fundamentals:
Fuel type ID, tree ID, fuel continuity
Construction of hand guard
Use of hoses
Basic pump troubleshooting and hose lay
Vehicle use: how to perform daily vehicle inspections and tire change instruction
Orientation: Reading of Nakimu’s Occupational Health and Safety Plan, and discussion on company specific policies and expectations.
Moderate Capacity fitness test: walk 3.22 km, in under 30 minutes, with 25lbs in backpack.
Please come prepared for the fit-test*, and dress appropriately for the predicted weather.
* Bring a sturdy backpack equipped with 25lbs of weight. Nakimu will not provide weight for your backpack *
