PROJECT SUMMARY
WILDFIRE RISK REDUCTION TREATMENTS - FUEL MANAGEMENT - FIRESMART - OPERATIONAL TREATMENTS
Nakimu Ventures has teamed up with Solano Resources to provide a full suite of mechanical and hand treatment options for any fuel modification treatment including stump to dump harvest, grinding/chipping, hand treatments, piling and burning. We have a large amount of experience working in sensitive areas and different fuel types and have the equipment and personnel to tackle the toughest projects.
OWLHEAD - SICAMOUS, BC
DECEMBER - JULY 2021
80.5 HA
ICHdw4 mapping references C5
FES BC AND District of Sicamous collaboration to achieve objectives to reduce potential for high fire behaviour immediately around the community of Sicamous. Prescription included mechanical and hand treatments such as cutting and removing merchantable and non-merchantable timber, pruning residual trees and reducing surface fuels by bucking, piling & burning and some chipping within reachable areas.
Removal of 100% of layer 2, 3 and 4 stems in hand treatment units
400 sph layer 1 retention in mechanical treatment units
Surface fuel targets averaged <10 t/ha (<7cm) and <20 t/ha (>7cm)
Area is a high use public zone with heavy traffic from recreationalists and was a multi contractor work site with an adjacent timber sale - requiring a high amount of coordination.

SE KELOWNA (UNIT 3)
MARCH 2021
17.6 HA
IDFxh1 C7
MOFLNRORD, Okanagan Shuswap Natural Resource District and the City of Kelowna collaboration to achieve objectives to reduce potential for high fire behaviour and utilize residual fibre in an area near Gallagher’s Canyon. Prescription included mechanical and hand treatments such as cutting and removing merchantable and non-merchantable timber, pruning residual trees and reducing surface fuels by bucking and removing. All fibre on site was utilized as sawlog or chip.
Mechanical harvest followed by small machine treatment and hand treatment.
350 sph layer 1 retention (from existing 650 sph pre-treatment)
Surface fuel targets averaged <5 t/ha (<7cm) and <10 t/ha (>7cm)
Area is a high use public zone with houses nearby and heavy traffic from recreationalists including horse-back riding and hiking trails. Trail avoidance and rehabilitation included in post treatment activities.
MYRA-BELLEVUE (UNIT 9)
FEBRUARY-MARCH 2021
79.8 HA
IDFxh1 C7 C3 and C4
MOFLNRORD, Okanagan Shuswap Natural Resource District and FES BC collaboration to achieve objectives to reduce potential for high fire behaviour and utilize residual fibre in an area near KLO Creek Regional Park. Prescription included mechanical and hand treatments such as cutting and removing merchantable and non-merchantable timber, pruning residual trees and reducing surface fuels by mechanical raking, bucking and removing/chipping/burning.
Mechanical harvest (64.1 ha) Hand treatment (15.7 ha)
155-200 sph layer 1 target retention (from existing 400 sph pre-treatment)
Surface fuel targets averaged <10 t/ha (<7cm) and <12 t/ha (>7cm)
Area is a high use public recreation area with ATV trails and hunting blinds located throughout. Adjacent to private land owner requiring lower targets for surface fuels.

Mechanical harvest (27.2 ha) Hand treatment (29.1 ha)
200 sph layer 1 target retention (from existing 400 sph pre-treatment)
Surface fuel targets averaged <10 t/ha (<7cm) and <20 t/ha (>7cm) - higher in areas of heavy CWD
This project had a very tight timeline for completion (< 3 months) and zero disturbance limits.
